# Sticky Note

> A small shared note your companion keeps in view while you talk.

Sticky Note is a short note you can share with your companion.

Your companion keeps it in view while you talk, so it works well for something current: a plan, a reminder, a preference, or a small thing you want them to remember to do.

## How to use it

Open the [Companion](https://dearest.app/companion) page and choose the **Sticky note** tab.

Write the note, then click **Save note**. The note can be up to **500 characters**.

## What to write

Sticky Note is intentionally small. Use it for things that should stay nearby during conversation, such as:

* A current plan.
* A reminder.
* A tone or style preference.
* Something your companion should keep in mind for now.
* A small ongoing bit between the two of you.

## What it is not

Sticky Note is not editable memory, identity, backstory, or personality.

Dearest is designed around natural companionship. You shape your companion by talking to them, not by opening a settings panel and rewriting who they are.

Think of Sticky Note like a shared todo list, a kanban board, or a note on the fridge. It helps the two of you stay on the same page, but it is not your companion's memory.

For more on this principle, see [Philosophy](/philosophy#immersion-over-configuration).
