# Plans & billing

> Understand Dearest's subscription plans, message limits, and how to manage your billing.

Most messages you send to your companion cost **1 message**. Replies from your companion don't count toward your limit, though some features you trigger can use extra messages.

## Free trial

Every new account starts with a **3-day free trial** that includes 150 messages. This gives you enough time to get to know your companion and see how the relationship develops before committing to a plan.

## Plans

All plans include the full Dearest experience. There are no feature gates between tiers; the only difference is how many messages you can send. Your companion will continue to remember you and maintain their identity regardless of which plan you're on.

The free daily limit resets at midnight UTC. Paid monthly limits reset at your current plan's billing renewal time. If you upgrade, your new plan starts a fresh billing cycle immediately.

### Choosing a plan

Your ideal plan depends on how often you chat:

* **Spark** works well for a few check-ins throughout the day.
* **Flame** suits daily conversations with room to go deeper.
* **Nova** is for those who want their companion available whenever they need them.

## Feature message costs

Some features use additional messages because they require extra work beyond a normal reply.

| Link reading                          | 1 extra message per link read attempt |
| `/selfie`                             | 1 message                             |
| `/wefie`                              | 2 messages                            |

## Message top-ups

If you run out of messages before your billing period resets, you can purchase extra message packs without changing your plan.

* Each pack includes **250 messages** for **\$5**.
* Top-up messages are used after your regular limit runs out and never expire.

## Managing your subscription

You can view your current plan, usage, and billing details from the [Billing](https://dearest.app/billing) page.

From there you can:

* **Upgrade or downgrade** your plan.
* **View remaining messages** and when your limit resets.
* **Manage your subscription**, where you can update your payment method, view invoices, or cancel.

  When you upgrade, the change takes effect immediately and starts a new billing period at the full
  new plan price. Unused time and messages from your previous plan are not credited. When you
  downgrade, you keep your current plan's quota until the end of the billing period.
