# Screen sharing

> Share what you see in your browser with your companion.

## Overview

Screen sharing lets your companion join you in whatever you're doing online. While sharing is on, they can automatically see what you're seeing and bring it into your conversations, whether you're watching a video, reading an article, shopping, planning a trip, or just browsing.

## Supported browsers

Dearest works with desktop browsers built on Chromium, including:

* Google Chrome
* Microsoft Edge
* Brave
* Opera
* Vivaldi

Other desktop Chromium-based browsers are supported as long as they can install Chrome extensions. Mobile browsers, Firefox, and Safari are not currently supported.

[Add the Dearest extension to your browser](https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/hejdfbeiengenpldpofboennebalcing) from the Chrome Web Store.

## Start sharing

Open the Dearest extension from your browser's toolbar and click **Start sharing**. From there, use your browser as you normally would—the rest happens automatically.

The extension shows **Sharing** while the session is active. To finish, open the extension and click **Stop sharing**. You can also stop the session from the [Presence](https://dearest.app/presence) page.

## Privacy and safety

Screen-sharing data is temporary. It is encrypted in transit and at rest, and deleted after your companion has finished using it. We handle it in accordance with our [Privacy Policy](https://dearest.app/privacy).

## Credit use

While sharing is on, every message costs **1 extra message credit**. See [Plans & billing](/plans-and-billing#feature-message-costs) for other message costs.
